The main areas of basic research:
- Research on the theoretical and methodological basis for the development of environmental friendly technology;
- The theoretical and practical issues related to the wool and cashmere processing industry.
Main areas of technology and innovation development:
- Improvement of wool and cashmere processing technology, creation of product innovation;

The following are the areas of research in the mining industry:
- Exploration of mineral extraction and processing methods, technology, and production processes;
- Study of the properties of combustible minerals and hydrothermal processes;
- Physical and mechanical properties of rocks, geotechnics, excavation, and pile stabilization studies;
- Optimization of drilling and blasting techniques, and research on the properties of explosives;

4. MAIN RESEARCH WORK OF THE HEAT TECHNOLOGY AND INDUSTRIAL ECOLOGY INSTITUTE
The following are the main areas of basic research in the field of heat technology and ecology:
- The theory of heat-mass exchange and combustion, heat supply, steam and water heating boiler design technology, and the determination of thermal physical parameters of domestic or new raw material products. Additionally, the use of solar energy in heat supply and cooling systems;
- Studying ways to develop the country's energy industries and to ensure an appropriate position in the energy system of Northeast Asia with an ecological orientation;
- Mathematical modeling and optimization of combustion and gas-liquid movement;
- Creation of urban and industrial ecological maps, technologies for the processing and use of residential, public utility, and industrial solid waste; economic evaluation of industrial ecology, and the development of methodologies in this field;
- Researching scientific, technical, and technological information in the fields above, creating a fund, and drafting proposals for relevant government agencies
